Abstract/Summary

The descriptions of many Dermestidae species are brief and inadequate for modern-day taxonomic purposes. This is particularly true for species described in the 18th and 19th centuries. Here we provide additional information on the Mediterranean Attagenus trifasciatus, one of the many poorly described species. Images of external (habitus, ventrites, antennae) and internal (aedeagus, male sternite IX, female sternite VIII, female tergite VIII, bursal copulatrix sclerites) characters are provided. Even though Att. trifasciatus was described in the 18th century, most of the images shown here are not available elsewhere in the literature. Comparison is made with another Mediterranean species, Att. tigrinus to illustrate how and which characters might vary among species.
