Abstract/Summary

This is the final publication of the pre-Roman Iron Age occupation of Silchester Insula IX, reporting on the results of excavations which took place between 1997 and 2014 directed by Prof Fulford. The report includes detailed information on the structures, their context and development from the late 1st century BCE up to the time of the Roman Conquest, c. AD 43. The associated material culture (earlier prehistoric finds, coins, coin moulds, brooches, small finds, vessel glass, pottery, pre-conquest arretine wares, querns, other ceramics, iron-making and other high temperatures activities) and environmental evidence (animal, insect and charred and waterlogged plant remains, wood charcoal, pollen, phytoliths, organic residue analysis of pottery vessels, radiocarbon dating, elemental geochemistry and micromorphology)is also fully reported. The report concludes with an integrative and contextualising discussion.
