Abstract/Summary

The article discusses the contradictions inherent in the construction of the self-as human capital and dismantles the myth of meritocracy. Referencing Autonomist theory, Althusser and Marx, it examines the figure of the artist as a paradigmatic post-fordist worker and explores the way different models of authorship might help us reconfigure the demands of this worker. The Museum of American Art - Berlin is cited as a particularly useful example.
