Abstract/Summary

Transformation of industrial land is the common problem in sustainable urban development. Methods used are particularly important to cities in China. Britain, as the first industrial country, is working on reviving the urban vitality by activating the abandoned industrial land in town center, and the practices are of great importance in solving a series of town problems in the process of industry transformation in China. This research investigates the Oracle, commercial leisure center in Reading, the southeast of England and traces the policy background of urban renewal and studies on project's effect on the improvement of the business environment in Reading. This paper summarizes characteristics of the location, site environment, function, shape, space et al. and induces five strategies for promoting urban regeneration. Study of urban regeneration strategy in a complex environment helps the regeneration of old city center in China.
