Abstract/Summary

This chapter presents a short history of schizophrenia, its diagnosis, and the associated epidemiology and etiology. It then goes on to describe the clinical presentation and formal diagnosis of this complex disorder and describes both the pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment options combined with monitoring treatment efficacy. The role of the Mental Health Pharmacists and their vital contributions to multidisciplinary teams are also described. The chapter is then concluded with the presentation of a simple case followed by a complex case and suggestions for their treatment.
