Abstract/Summary

A review of research on land mollusc middens with a circum- Mediterranean emphasis and drawing particularly on the detailed analysis of a very large Late Pleistocene Iberomaurusian midden at Taforalt, Morocco dated between 20 thousand and 12600 cal BP. The contribution of mollusca to the diet and the social significance of middens is considered.
