Abstract/Summary

In this article the results of the techno-typological and comparative analysis of the lithic assemblage of Oosthoven (Belgium) are presented. The main conclusion of the study is the fact that the lithic assemblage of Oosthoven occupies a unique position in the Middle Paleolithic of Europe. The assemblage is a mix of Micoquian and Mousterian elements. Because of this, this collection can be interpreted as a new variant of the MTA with small handaxes with unworked bases as the type fossils, as well as MMO type B whereby the bifaces are then seen as a Micoquian element.
