Abstract/Summary

This paper explores the critical gap in the literature regarding comprehensive sustainability assessment frameworks for Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs), with a particular focus on the context of Saudi Arabia. The study presents trends in NZEB on technological aspects, while there is a significant lack of research addressing stakeholder engagement and tailored frameworks for NZEB evaluation. From the literature review, the study highlights the necessity of integrating pertinent sustainability criteria for a future NZEB framework by examining building sustainability literature. It underscores the importance of considering local factors in NZEB development. This work contributes to the field by identifying the need for more holistic and context-specific approaches in NZEB research, particularly in regions like Saudi Arabia, where such frameworks are urgently needed.
