Abstract/Summary

The creative industries have been widely acknowledged as an important conduit for economic growth and regional development with a profound impact on the social and cultural aspects of society. Policymakers and scholars in the business and management fields have also recognised the creative industries as a strategic sector which can help regions and economies achieve sustainable growth by using their unique characteristics, such as flexibility, entrepreneurial orientation, creativity, and extensive range of technologies and talents. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led the creative industries to face dramatic challenges related to changes in business models, organisational behaviour, interactions with customers and stakeholders, and the way products and services are created and delivered. Such changes provide a good setting to investigate the creative industries in terms of their resilience to external shocks and how this sector can contribute to the socio-economic and entrepreneurship development of the Euro-Asian region. This thesis consists of three interconnected publications which explore the ‘creative industries’ concept through the lens of regional and organisational resilience with a specific focus on productive entrepreneurship as a desirable outcome of any entrepreneurial activity. This thesis also takes the perspective of the Euro-Asian region, investigating its institutional settings and context for entrepreneurship, resilience, and the creative industries dynamics. It provides policy and managerial implications as well as research directions to be considered by future scholars.
