Abstract/SummaryMoral development is essential for leading a meaningful life and our new model of development of the person introduced here is based on the motivation to grow as a moral being. The ideas stem from a moral philosophical tradition called personalist virtue ethics, which emphasizes the person’s holistic growth. The proposed model focusses on how to morally develop the emotional-cognitive (how we think and feel about moral issues), decisional (choosing to grow morally), practical (learning through actions), and self-understanding (how we see our moral identity) components. It aims to guide moral education by helping people envision and aspire to morally grow to be a better person and offers a clear and structured way. This can guide educators to better support personal moral development of the whole person, making moral education more effective and meaningful for the persons who partake and is a personalised approach to moral education and development.
