Abstract/SummaryThis article examines the recent high profile case involving Nigel Farage and the publicity after he was ‘debanked’ by Coutts. Farage’s claims about the exclusive nature of the British banking systems are by no means new. British banks have always selected their customers carefully, although often at the point of acquiring new customers through marketing techniques. In doing so, this article challenges the now conventional wisdom that banks ought to be inclusive. Altogether, it offers much thought for those currently seeking to impose standards on the retention of customers across British banks.
